Scout Investiture

Welcoming a new Scout is important, so we would like to celebrate this with a great investiture.

We are grateful to have the opportunity again to meet face-to-face and we have managed to make a great start this new season. Now we would like all the new Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to become part of the Scout family. To become a member of the Scout Association and our group you will be asked to make a promise at the investiture ceremony. Please see our Investiture Information Page for more information.

On Wednesday October 13th we will join all together at the church, and if the weather is good will have this celebration outside. The ceremony will take place around 19:00 and we would like to welcome all parents/carers to join us. Details will follow closer to the date.

To be invested you will need to have a uniform, we will provide you with a necker and the Region, District and unit badges.

Uniforms can be purchased from a couple of places:

  1. Via the official Scoutshop
  2. Via one of our suppliers: Monkhouse, OneStopScouting or Amazon

Summer Break

Summer is here and we are going to take a break. If all goes to plan we will be meeting again in September.

We have been fortunate that our Scouts have been able to enjoy an almost normal program throughout the year, and we can’t wait to meet up again with our Beavers and Cubs.

Now it is time to enjoy the sunshine and have an excellent summer. We are looking forward to see you all again in September!!

Have Fun.

#GoodForYou

78th Kingswood is looking for new leaders as we are in need of Beaver and Cub support, especially as we plan for our return to face to face meetings. Sadly if we do not have new volunteers the risk is the sections may need to close.

Volunteering for Scouts is:
* good for your skills and CV
* good for your health and happiness
* good for your family and community.

In short, it’s good for you!

You will be part of an enthusiastic team with support for all aspects of the role.

Put your skills to use, learn new ones, and contribute to an amazing life-experience for you and your local community.

Volunteering is easier than you think. With full support and training, you can volunteer on a flexible basis. And if you have children they will be able to benefit as well!

Please contact us to find out more.

It is with great sadness that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

He has been a great inspiration for some many young people during his lifetime, and especially within Scouting through his Duke of Edinburgh award programme, which gives young people the chance to make friends, have fun and build confidence in an empowering, exciting and non-competitive learning environment.

In the UK alone, a phenomenal 6.7 million young people have benefitted from taking on the personal challenge of a DofE Award so far.

Today, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award charity is calling for anyone involved in the DofE over the decades – including alumni and volunteers – to get in touch and share their DofE stories and memories at DofE.org.

The Great Indoors Continues

First of all, welcome to 2021. Although we were all getting ready to get back to face-to-face meetings, we unfortunaly in the current situation are unable to do that.

But there are some great new resources to keep busy, and Scouts UK have released a whole bunch of new activities on their Great Outdoors site.

Have a look and see what you could be doing from home, and work towards one of the three badges! But there will be many other badges that you can earn whilst Scouting from home.

All information can be found on https://www.scouts.org.uk/the-great-indoors/ and you can log your progress via OSM.

We hope to see you all again soon, but for now stay safe.

Yours in Scouting,

Staff at 78th Kingswood Scout Group

See You Next Year

It doesn’t look like COVID-19 is going anywhere anytime soon, and the threat of holiday get togethers being canceled like everything else is becoming very real. But as the year is winding down, it seems like there is nowhere to go but up. Please remember all the things we have collectively overcome this year and send wishes for a better 2021.

Throughout the year we have been involved in a wide variety of activities, even though most of these have taken place via Zoom. There have been an incredible amount of badges earned whilst working on them at home, and we are very proud of each and every one who achieved their goals.

We have no clear idea of when we are able to meet face-to-face again in the new year, but we will do our best to create a programme that can at least be done from wherever you might be. The year ahead will be challenging, but we will get through this.

From all of us here at 78th Kingswood Scout Group, see you next year!

Virtual Remembrance Service

Coming Sunday 8th November there will be a virtual remembrance service being held by the Staple Hill & District Branch of the Royal British Legion.

The service will take place online on Sunday 8th November from 10:50am and can be followed here: https://www.staplehillrbl.org.uk/

One of our Cubs, Ronnie, has laid a wreath at the war memorial in Staple Hill Park on behalf of 78th Kingswood Scout Group.

Following the announcement of a four-week lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November, the National Youth Agency (NYA) has now issued guidance about what this means for all youth sector activity. From tomorrow, Scouts and all other youth activities will move to Red readiness level.

This decision by the Government means that there can be no face-to-face activity with young people or adult volunteers.

We expect these restrictions to last until 2 December, when the lockdown is currently scheduled to end in England.

You can keep an eye on the readiness levels on the Scouts UK website.
