Ready for an adventure?

We are looking for new leaders to help our members onto new adventures.

Camping, rifle shooting, axe throwing, ice skating, paddle boarding, archery, woodwork, hikes and code breaking are just a few the activities that members of 78th Kingswood Scout group have undertaken in the last year.

We would like to hear from you, if you like the idea of volunteering to be part of our amazing Scouting team and to partake in our exciting experiences. We are a very active Scout group, with over 50 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

And we would love to provide fun and excitement to even more young people who are on our waiting list, but we need extra energetic and creative adult helpers to make it happen. If you enjoy interacting with young people, working in a team and having fun, then you might just be the right person. Don’t worry about experience, training or not having been in Scouts before as we provide all the training you need.

No matter how little time you can commit, it would be great to hear from you.

78th Kingswood Scout group is one of the oldest in the area, having been founded in 1959.

Every year we organise a camping weekend for the entire group, which is a great chance for all the young people and leaders to have fun together, and the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts have their own camp weekends as well.

We are also very active in the local community, attending the Page Park Remembrance Parade, and helping the Downend Round Table with their fireworks display and Santa Sleigh.

If you like to help out as a volunteer please contact us via https://78thkingswood.org.uk/contact-us/

Happy New Year

Welcome to 2023, the beginning of another brilliant year.

We are looking forward to an action packed year. It is going to be a busy one, as some of you might know this year the 25th World Jamboree will take place in Saemangeum, North Jeolla, South Korea.

But many other activities will take place. Some of the ones we can tell you about is the start of the Ten Tors training on Sunday 8th January. And in February there is the County Scout Cooking Competition.

There are some camps to look forward to as well. Scouts will be attending Strategy again in June, the Cubs are interested in attending Evolutions for the first time.

We will have our first meeting of 2023 on Wednesday 11th January, so we will see you then.

Happy Holidays

With a true winter event last Wednesday on the ice rink at Avon Valley, we can look back upon a year joy.

Starting this Scout season with our Group camp at Youlbury, which was greatly enjoyed by all taking part, through to all the varied activities taking place in each section, from wide games to indoor caving, crafts and painting, movie night to helping out at Downend Fireworks. So far we have done some amazing things, and we are looking forward to the rest of the season coming.

We wish you all a fabulous time and will meet you again in the new year!

Remembrance Parade and Service

It is with great pleasure that we are able to attend the Service of Remembrance at Page Park on Sunday 13th November.

We will meet on Page Road (///person.boats.liked) at 10am to assemble with other units and the Salvation Band, who will lead the parade at 10:15am. We will then parade along Staple Hill High Street behind the band and assemble at Page Park Cenotaph for the service, laying of wreaths and minute silence.

When this service has finished the Scout groups will parade to the Downend Cenotaph (///faster.copy.scenes), the only Scout War Memorial on public land in the country, for a wreath laying and short service. This normally is finished by midday and this will be the collection point for parents.

It is imperative that each member is in FULL uniform (no jeans) and wearing their Poppy. Well turned out youngsters will be awarded the honour of being in the Standard Party which leads their pack and are front row at Page Park. Please wear warm clothing underneath uniform and only have a lightweight coat if raining. Parents are encouraged to walk along side on the pavements, but if you can’t attend please ensure your child’s name is recorded as such with a leader.

United in sorrow

Scouts across the UK join the nation in mourning the loss of our beloved monarch and Patron, HM The Queen. Her outstanding example of service, encouragement and kindness was an inspiration to us all.

For 70 years HM The Queen has stood at our side, encouraging our volunteers and inspiring our young people to learn new skills, help others and shine brightly. Her sense of duty was an outstanding example to every single Scout during her long and eventful reign.

‘Scouting is a global force for good’ she once told us. ‘In this country and around the world, Scouts are helping others and making the most of their lives.’

Enjoy the summer

We are taking a break this summer to recharge. Although it has been a year with ups and downs, we have managed to entertain so many young people over the last year. Many have experienced new things, some as new members to our group, others having their first under-canvas experience, but all enjoying what we do as Scouts.

Over this year we have been running Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and in total have been entertaining 52 young people in total every week. Not always an easy task but we are all up for the challenge and enjoy working on great programmes every single week.

We have had to say goodbye to two fantastic members, our precious Cub leaders Mandy and Lesley, whom have been with us for over 20 years.

It has been fantastic having you with our group and your experience, enthusiasm and smiles will be not be easy to replace. We are proud to have had you both within our group and wish you well in your next adventures.

And then we also have had the sad news of the passing of one of our longest serving members, John Smith, earlier this month. He will surely be missed by all of us.

Summer is upon us and we welcome you all back on 14th September. We will send out emails nearer the time to remind you.

Enjoy the summer and see you next season!
