Glenny Wood 2017

The Scouts have had a fabulous time at Glenny Wood this weekend!

There were 16 Scouts at this years Scout Camp, and absolute record number. We are very pleased with the turnout and we have enjoyed every second of this weekend.

Even though all the activities took place on and around the camp site, we have managed to do some incredible things. Not only getting soapily messy on the slide we made, smoked out during creating the fires for breakfast, enjoyed wood working, playing games, and lots more.

Thanks to everyone participating, we have had a blast!

Last Wednesday the District Cubs Cooking Competition was held and the 78th had 2 teams competing.

After a couple of weeks of practicing the night to perform was finally there, and the results were very tasty.

And our teams did very well, they managed to keep the trophy for another year, as they came in 1st and 2nd place. The margin between the two teams was very small, only a couple of points difference.

Well done and congratulations!

Happy Chinese New Year

It’s the year of the Rooster / Chicken. The Rooster is the tenth in the 12-year cycle of Chinese zodiac sign. The Years of the Rooster include 1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017, and the next one is in 2029.

The Rooster is almost the epitome of fidelity and punctuality. For ancestors who had no alarm clocks, the crowing was significant, as it could awaken people to get up and start to work. In Chinese culture, another symbolic meaning of chicken carries is exorcising evil spirits.

Cubs 100 Promise Party

To celebrate the 100 years of Cub Scouting, the District have booked a District ‘Promise Birthday Party’ on Friday 16th December.

All Cubs must wear their full uniform as the party will include renewing our promise all together at 19.17.

Full details have been send to all Cubs’ parents/carers, and we hope to see you all on Friday!

The last meeting of the year, and becoming a tradition now we will be going bowling this Wednesday.

So no meeting at the hall but at the bowl plex in Longwell Green. Details have been emailed across.

We hope to see you all and hopefully you will be bowling some strikes to end the year on a high.

In case you are not around, we all wish you are merry Christmas and will see you next year!

As part of this year’s Remembrance Sunday on November 13th, the 78th Kingswood Scout Group are attending the British Legion Remembrance Parade which marches through Staple Hill to Page Park for a very special service of remembrance at the Cenotaph. There will be other groups from the Scouting Association attending, along with members of various armed forces, both past and present.

This is a VERY special occasion and an excellent opportunity for the younger generation to represent themselves in front of the older generation. As such, all attendees must be in FULL uniform and wearing a Poppy. Please ensure that your child has a coat, ideally a pac-a-mac that can be packed down small. If the weather is cold, then extra layers can be worn under their uniform. As a mark of respect we always ensure that the full uniform is on display unless it is raining. (This includes black shoes – no trainers, no jeans).

Full details have been email to the parents/carers. Please contact a member of staff if you have not received the information or if you have any questions.

We know that you recognise the significance of this year’s Anniversary commemorations and therefore look forward to seeing the younger generation support this important event.

Yours in scouting,

The 78th Kingswood Scout Group Committee and Leaders
