Dear Parents, Carers,

Although the summer break has ended and most schools are back in session, we are not quite ready yet. Our first meeting back will be on Wednesday 14th September.

Beavers and Cubs will start at 18:00 (with Beavers finishing at 19:15 and Cubs at 19:30), Scouts will start at 19:15 (and finishing at 21:15). Our first meeting will take place at the church, so we will see you all refreshed and well on the 14th!

Yours in Scouting,

Enjoy the summer

We are taking a break this summer to recharge. Although it has been a year with ups and downs, we have managed to entertain so many young people over the last year. Many have experienced new things, some as new members to our group, others having their first under-canvas experience, but all enjoying what we do as Scouts.

Over this year we have been running Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and in total have been entertaining 52 young people in total every week. Not always an easy task but we are all up for the challenge and enjoy working on great programmes every single week.

We have had to say goodbye to two fantastic members, our precious Cub leaders Mandy and Lesley, whom have been with us for over 20 years.

It has been fantastic having you with our group and your experience, enthusiasm and smiles will be not be easy to replace. We are proud to have had you both within our group and wish you well in your next adventures.

And then we also have had the sad news of the passing of one of our longest serving members, John Smith, earlier this month. He will surely be missed by all of us.

Summer is upon us and we welcome you all back on 14th September. We will send out emails nearer the time to remind you.

Enjoy the summer and see you next season!

In Memoriam

It is with great sadness to inform you all of the passing of John Smith, one of our longest serving members of our Scout group.

He was a true inspiration to us and enjoyed supporting the 78th throughout his lifetime. On many occasion he was impressed by the joy and enthusiasm of our youngsters, and would always have time to lend a hand in time of need.

Over the years John has given many an hour to our group, but never complained. Especially during celebrations, either within the Church or within the group, he would light up the place with his always present smile.

We will miss John immensely and our thoughts and prayers are with John’s family.

Yours In Scouting,

Big Thank You

A very BIG THANK YOU for your support last Wednesday; The Badminton Road Methodist Church event was a huge success. It was lovely to see so many parents, family and our youngsters enjoying themselves.

We have raised an amazing £456.10 for the Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal!

Congratulations to all the Rainbows, Beavers, Brownies, Cubs, Guides, Scouts, Rangers and their leaders, families and friends.

A huge thank you also to the parents and youngsters that helped us, and the team that cleared away at the end of the night – it certainly made it easier for us after a long day.

We wish you all a lovely break

Badminton Road Methodist Church is holding Platinum Jubilee celebrations on the 25th May for all uniformed groups.

We invite you and your family along with your young uniformed attendee to join us on Wednesday 25th May for an evening of fun, food and celebration.  All monies raised will go to the Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal for Bristol Children’s Hospital.

The evening will commence at 6.00pm in the Church with a short service of thanksgiving where our youngest Rainbows and Eldest Scout will be part of the Standard party. We will of course at some point sing the National Anthem. We will then have a short investiture to welcome new members to the uniformed sections and special awards.
There will be a BBQ, soft drinks, tea and coffee with a cake stall; all at great prices! The children (and you!) will have plenty of opportunity to spend small amounts of money on traditional fete games with prizes; with all monies going to our chosen charity.

Many thanks for your support, and we look forward to seeing you all on the 25th May at 6.00pm

Happy Holidays

Although 2021 might not have been what we hoped it would be, we have been able to do many things regardless of the challenges we have had to face. But we can say that we have made it this far and have become stronger through it.

It was great to see so many happy faces at our end of year celebrations, the Beavers and Cubs have had a blast at their Christmas party in the hall, and the Scouts have had a fabulous time on the ice rink in Avon Valley.

We not only want to thank all our Leaders, Young Leaders and other adults that have kept the Group going in the face of unprecedented circumstances, but also our youth members and parents who have continued to believe in the benefits of Scouting with 78th Kingswood Scout Group.

Enjoy the final weeks of 2021 and we are looking forward to seeing you all again in 2022!

Happy Holidays.

Remembrance Day Parade 2021

It is with great pleasure that we are able to attend the Service of Remembrance at Page Park on Sunday 14th November.

We will meet as usual at the 28th Kingswood Scout Hut (Christchurch Avenue, BS16 5TG) at 9:20 to parade from there with the 28th and 85th Scout Group to Page Road to assemble with other units and the Salvation Band, who will lead the parade at 10:15. We will then parade along Staple Hill High Street behind the band and assemble at Page Park Cenotaph for the service, laying of wreaths and minute silence.
When this service has finished the Scout groups will parade to the Downend Cenotaph, the only Scout War Memorial on public land in the country, for a wreath laying and short service. This normally is finished by midday and this will be the collection point for parents.

It is imperative that each member is in FULL uniform (no jeans) and wearing their Poppy. Well turned out youngsters will be awarded the honour of being in the Standard Party which leads their pack and are front row at Page Park. Please wear warm clothing underneath uniform and only have a lightweight coat if raining. Parents are encouraged to walk along side on the pavements, but if you can’t attend please ensure your child’s name is recorded as such with a leader.

Chief Scout’s Gold Award

It was a busy evening yesterday during our investiture of all of our new members and the ones that have moved up in Scouting. Wonderful to see so many happy faces.

We also have been grateful to all of our leaders, with some of them being awarded with long service awards and 2 have been handed their wood badge.

And in Scouts we have been able to hand Kirsty and Molly their Chief Scout’s Gold Award. They have been working hard to get this badge, and it will give them the drive to pursue the ultimate badge, the Queen’s Scout Award.

The Chief Scout’s Gold Award is the highest award that you can achieve in the Scouts section. It is a difficult badge to earn. The young people that have earned this award have shown great commitment and determination, and should all be proud of their achievements.

Both of them are continuing their journey within Scouting in Explorers.

Well done and good luck.

Scout Investiture

Welcoming a new Scout is important, so we would like to celebrate this with a great investiture.

We are grateful to have the opportunity again to meet face-to-face and we have managed to make a great start this new season. Now we would like all the new Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to become part of the Scout family. To become a member of the Scout Association and our group you will be asked to make a promise at the investiture ceremony. Please see our Investiture Information Page for more information.

On Wednesday October 13th we will join all together at the church, and if the weather is good will have this celebration outside. The ceremony will take place around 19:00 and we would like to welcome all parents/carers to join us. Details will follow closer to the date.

To be invested you will need to have a uniform, we will provide you with a necker and the Region, District and unit badges.

Uniforms can be purchased from a couple of places:

  1. Via the official Scoutshop
  2. Via one of our suppliers: Monkhouse, OneStopScouting or Amazon
