2019 Group Camp

This year we are going to Huish Woods Scout Campsite near Taunton, from Friday 20th till Sunday 22nd September 2019.

We have been here before and it is a great location with lots of things to do. So now it is time to sign-up for this annual camp.

Invites have been send out via OSM so keep an eye out for these. The cost for this camp will be £85, which included the coach as well.

A non-refundable deposit of £30 is payable once the invite has been accepted, and the balance to be paid by the beginning of the new term in September.

More details will follow once the programme has been finalised, and if you have any questions feel free to ask any of the leaders.

Our Scouts have had a blast at Strategy this year. It was our 2nd visit to Cirencester and it could not have been better. It was the 5th anniversary of S&E, and this year it was celebrated in full Christmas style. There were Christmas trees, elves, snowmen, a North Pole sofa, and even snow in The Venue.

We had 18 Scouts competing in 3 teams; Seagulls, Wolves and Otters.

The event on Saturday was nothing more than epic, with so many activities to choose from. Even though the teams did not know what activities there were, as the map only showed the bases, it did not hold them back to explore and enjoy the wonderful site of the Bathurst Estate.

334 teams took part in this event, and the results are in. Although all of our Scouts have had a blast, somehow the scores seem to be a bit random. Not sure what happened to team Otters, but in the end it is the taking part that counts.

We do not know the exact scores yet, but Team Otters have managed to put themselves in:

Then there is Team Wolves which managed to get:

And last but not least we find Team Seagulls with a:

There might be some skills that need to be improved, in fact we know that there is room for improvement, but overall not a bad result. Full results can be found here: https://book.s-e.org.uk/results/strategy.php

Let’s get ready for next year!

Dear Parents,

We now have the final details for our Uniform Groups Family service on Tuesday 12th February.  The service will be themed around Anniversaries as the Church and Scouts will be commemorating their Diamond Anniversary. Each group will be making diamond shapes that will be hung as bunting around the church. The children will be encouraged to read their inscriptions.

The service will commence at 6.15pm and finish approximately at 7.00pm; we ask that you bring your child for 6.00pm as normal so we can prepare them for the parade into church. We can then select the Standard party for each section – full uniform please. Parents, friends and family are very welcome to stay and join in.

The Brownie section will be leading the service with the minister: as it is their normal meeting night. There will be an investiture ceremony for all new members, during the service.

At the end of the service, there will be an opportunity to have refreshments themed as a Birthday Party, so we are asking if you could kindly bring a small cake or cakes that we can share. The 78th are helping to run this, so would welcome volunteers with open arms!

Many thanks

78th Kingswood Scout Group

Ps does anyone still have an original beaver, cub or scout uniform from back in the day? It would be lovely to use it during the service.

Pps don’t forget no beavers or cubs on Wednesday 13th

8th January 2019

We are going to be 60

It is going to be an exiting year as we are turning 60 years old.

Our first meeting took place on Tuesday 5th March 1959, and back then we were called 78th Bristol Scout Group. Badminton Road Methodist Church has always been our base and it has been welcoming ever since.

Throughout the years we have operated on almost every day of the week, but have for a long time now been steady on Wednesdays.

This celebratory year will bring some special events of which we will inform you all in due time. We are also working on a commemorative badge to mark this occasion.

For now congratulations to all, we are turning 60 on Tuesday 5th March.
